We sing Lauds in the three
linguistic chapels. The French
group, encouraged by our sisters of
Mauritius, and Reunion Island,
celebrate the feast of Blessed
Jacques Désiré Laval, who brought
the Gospel message to Mauritius.
Born in Normandie September 18,
1803, he was a physician and a
religious of the Holy Spirit
congregation. He went to Mauritius
on September 14, 1841when 38 years
old and at his arrival, he
immediately set out to learn Creole.
He created a Creole catechism and
distributed it to the freed slaves
in order to form those who cold be
his helpers. During his 23 years of
mission, Fr. Laval gave himself
completely for those marginalized
and out of favor.
Doesn’t that resonate with what we
wish to be and do as mission? |
